Adult Mixed Martial Arts, Ages 16+ – Our Adult MMA programme offers all the benefits of tuition in Mixed Martial Arts as well as use of our other facilities during opening hours. The Adult Mixed Martial Arts curriculum covers all the fundamental techniques used in Mixed Martial Arts competition. The class is split into 2 sections; a technical section where the skills are learned and a sparring section where the skills are contested. Adults can also train in our Stickfighting classes where they learn ‘Sport Eskrima’ (Filipino Stickfighting) with both single and double sticks. Classes are always fun and energetic with emphasis on ‘function, not fiction’! Class Times: MMA class, Mondays to Thursdays 7pm-9pm and Saturdays 10am-12pm Stickfighting class, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm-7pm
The system we use is Combat Submission Wrestling (CSW) which was created by Sensei Erik Paulson, 2 times Light-Heavyweight Shootwrestling Champion and coach to some of the top fighters in the world. In the MMA classes, techniques from Kickboxing to the Clinch to the Ground range are taught. Emphasis is on blending these ranges so the student is comfortable with moving in and out of each range. In the Kickboxing range we use a system that allows the student to move into the Clinch or Ground ranges as well as keeping the opponent away from these ranges if desired. In CSW, the stand up striking game is a mix of Muay Thai Boxing, French Savate and JKD/Jun Fan Kickboxing. The various striking arts give the practitioner a well versed knowledge of the striking game. The wrestling portion of CSW is a blend of Greco Roman Wrestling, Freestyle Wrestling, Catch-as-catch-can Wrestling, Judo, Sambo, Shooto, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Filipino Dumog. By having elements of various 'different' systems the student can see the similarities between apparently different cultures. The Stickfighting classes emphasizes the sportive side of the Filipino Martial Arts. The sport is called Sport Eskrima. Training includes both double stick and single stick fighting as well as knife defence. Students are taught fundamental skills which have been tried and tested in many low armour bouts over many years by Chief Intructor Neil McLeod, a current British and European Champion and former World Champion. Basic striking and blocking techniques are learnt and contested in various sparring formats. Students are also taught to mix the stickfighting techniques with the other Mixed Martial Arts skills and can test there skills in competition if desired. |
